bridges
to the ph.d. program policy
- CEA-CREST
is committed to the academic training and development of its students.
One
of the major goals of CEA-CREST is to increase the number of students
with Ph.D.'s in environmental science. The Bridges to the Ph.D.
program is a means to achieve this goal. CEA-CREST will award
financial support to its graduate students who are applying to
Ph.D. programs related to the environmental sciences. The fellowship
amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students must
submit evidence of financial need in their doctoral studies and
must demonstrate effort to secure other sources of funding.
Normally, a CEA-CREST Bridges Fellowship is $4,000 to $6,000 for
the first year a student is in a Ph.D. program in the environmental
sciences. The fellowship is disbursed on a monthly basis. Dependent
upon the availability of funds and satisfactory student progress,
the Bridges Fellowship can be renewed for the second and third
years of doctoral study. The exact amount of the fellowship is
at the discretion of CEA-CREST. The Program Director will consider
the availability of funds, student financial need, and individual
circumstances. Disbursement of the award is conditional and will
only commence upon matriculation in a Ph.D. program approved by
the CEA-CREST program director.
CEA-CREST students interested in applying for Bridges support
may pick up a CEA-CREST Bridges Fellowship Application in the
CEA-CREST Office, Biological Sciences, Room 140.
