experiences for prospective students
- CEA-CREST
Research Experiences (CREs) are available to prospective students
in order to promote awareness of academic and career opportunities
available to students in the area of environmental science. Participants
have the opportunity to conduct environmental science research
with a designated CEA-CREST faculty member in one of the following
areas:

Coastal marine population dynamics
2. Monitoring changing ecosystems at multiple spatial scales
3. Molecular genetics in evolution, ecology, and conservation
4. Biogeochemical processes
5. Hydrology of regional aquifers and riparian areas in arid
zones
Although CRE's are open to all qualified students, they tend to
be awarded to students interested in applying for a full undergraduate
or graduate fellowship. Students interested in applying for a
CRE must meet the following requirements:

- U.S.
Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Have a 3.0 GPA in their last 90-quarter or 60 semester units
completed.
The length of CRE is generally one Quarter (8-10 weeks), and they
are offered year-round. At the discretion of the faculty advisor
and the Program Director, students with a GPA between 2.7 and
3.0 may be accepted. Upon acceptance, local students receive a
total stipend of $2,000 disbursed in three payments. Out-of-state
students will be provided with additional funds for travel and
lodging.

to apply for a CRE:
1. Complete and submit an Intake Form (available online),
and submit it to the CEA-CREST office.
2. Interview with a faculty member regarding placement in
their lab.
3. Submit unofficial transcripts to the CEA-CREST office.
